{"id":878,"date":"2024-10-09T16:21:32","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T20:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aquacure-jeffro-dev.linksdev.com\/?post_type=product-resource&#038;p=878"},"modified":"2025-06-16T16:06:54","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T20:06:54","slug":"bg-book-2-parts-supplies","status":"publish","type":"product-resource","link":"https:\/\/aquacure-jeffro-dev.linksdev.com\/es\/product-resource\/bg-book-2-parts-supplies\/","title":{"rendered":"BG LIBRO 2 PIEZAS Y SUMINISTROS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Resources from Brown\u2019s Gas Book 2 and for\u00a0<a href=\"\/es\/browns-gas-resources\/browns-gas-info\/\">BG<\/a>\u00a0Book 2 Update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Manufacturers listed here are specific to items and supplies needed for the projects in Brown\u2019s Gas Book 2.<\/p>\n<p>If you are looking for parts from manufacturers or suppliers that I use for several projects, see the \u2018General Manufacturers\u2019 page to find their contact information (I list only in one location so that I do not have to find all the locations when there is a change).<\/p>\n<p>Though these manufacturers and suppliers are listed, be advised to \u2018Let your fingers do the walking\u2019.\u00a0 Try to locate various alternative suppliers and options.\u00a0 Doing this may save you a great deal of money.\u00a0 You\u2019ll also learn a lot about the available options on components you are trying to locate. \u00a0<em>If you find good alternatives, let us know so we can tell other experimenters like yourself<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Thomas Directory of Manufacturers is a great resource, available in most public libraries.\u00a0 You can go looking for a component, like a pressure switch and find pages of manufacturers. \u00a0They are now available online.<\/p>\n<p>Using Surplus suppliers you can often get great deals on components that are described well enough that you\u2019ll be safe using them; like heavy duty relays, diodes, heat-sinks, capacitors, etc.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Be careful with components that have \u2018wetted parts\u2019 like pressure switches and pressure gauges, because they could have material compatibility problems.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Also, remember that I wrote this book before there was an internet. \u00a0Now you can look up these and many other suppliers online. \u00a0Surf the internet to savings\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/svg\/1f642.svg\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude42\" \/>\u00a0If you are concerned with putting your credit card information online, use PayPal or a disposable credit card.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Direct Acting Pressure Switch:<\/strong><br \/>\nManufactured by Hobbs, sold by Stewart Warner<br \/>\nThis is one component I suggest you buy new. \u00a0It\u2019s pretty vital.<br \/>\nFor projects in BG Book 2, I prefer the 5000 series, similar to the 76578<br \/>\nfactory set at 10 psi (it\u2019s adjustable by the user)<br \/>\nNormally closed, open on pressure rise<br \/>\ntwo pole, screw terminals<br \/>\nIron base, PTFE diaphram<br \/>\n<strong><em>After market modifications<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n1. Make a small hole in the adjustment chamber plug by cutting off the knob.<br \/>\nThis prevents hydrogen, which will leak through\/past the diaphram, from<br \/>\nbuilding up pressure that skews the switch setpoint.<br \/>\n2. Resize (drill out) the gas orifice to 1\/8\u2033<br \/>\nBe VERY careful not to damage the internal components or<br \/>\nto allow metal filings into the switch. \u00a0This prevents\u00a0lye\u00a0crystals from<br \/>\neventually plugging the tiny orifice. \u00a0Drill using progressively larger bits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plastic Pressure Relief Valves:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filterchem.com\/plastic-pressure-relief-valves.cfm#added\">http:\/\/www.filterchem.com\/plastic-pressure-relief-valves.cfm#added<\/a>\u00a0:<br \/>\nPart # Size Pressure Material Price Qty.<br \/>\nFC-MPR-25-1 1\/4\u2033 10-80 PSI PVC $170.00<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plastomatic.com\/rvd.html\">http:\/\/www.plastomatic.com\/rvd.html<br \/>\n<\/a>RVD 025 V-PV \u00a0is $162.00<\/p>\n<p>Either one will work OK for up to 2000 L\/hr, I\u2019ve tested them both.<br \/>\nI prefer the Plastomatic one because it withstood backfires better.<\/p>\n<p>You need a little bracket and you\u2019ll Tee into the BG out hose for maximum safety (don\u2019t put it in the pressure gauge hose because the water in the mini-bubbler can freeze\u2026 And if venting at full volume you\u2019ll push too much water out of the mini-bubbler, leaving the gauge and pressure switch unprotected.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a video showing a test of the pressure relief (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MeFk32y0x3Y&amp;feature=plcp&amp;context=C3e103caUDOEgsToPDskICZ4Q2yZ2i9p98ZcaN6IVn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hacer clic<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Surplus Capacitors:<\/strong><br \/>\nI always get my\u00a0<em>experimental<\/em>\u00a0oil filled capacitors from surplus businesses. \u00a0Saves me bunches of money. \u00a0I only start buying \u2018commercial\u2019 capacitors when I make a production run of machines, because then everything must match. \u00a0With one-off projects it doesn\u2019t matter if the components don\u2019t match, just so they meet the important specs.<br \/>\nTry this place (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.surpluscenter.com\/sort.asp?catname=electric&amp;keyword=EMRC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hacer clic<\/a>) The larger capacitors are at the end of the list.<\/p>\n<p>You can also pick up your\u00a0<strong>heat sinks<\/strong>\u00a0and a lot of other components at such surplus places online.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Electronic Relay:<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u2019ve used several over the years and have to say I\u2019m really impressed with Opto 22 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opto22.com\/site\/solidstaterelays.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hacer clic<\/a>) and that\u2019s where I\u2019d recommend you buy your solid state relay (SSR).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Float Switch:<\/strong><br \/>\nFor my electrolyzers I like to use the M5000 from Madison (<a href=\"http:\/\/shopsensors.madisonco.com\/viewitems\/single-point-reed-sensors\/stainless-steel-miniature-float-switches?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hacer clic<\/a>). \u00a0I know of several others and you can even find good alternatives on eBay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Check Valve:<\/strong><br \/>\nI like to use an acetylene torch handle check valve from Air Liquide. \u00a0I also buy the fittings to adapt it to a 1\/4\u2033 inline hose application.
